Eastern Michigan University’s School of Engineering of Technology seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Construction Management to begin Fall 2010. Academic rank is negotiable, commensurate with qualifications, furthermore, an earned doctorate is required for promotion to associate or full professor.

The EMU Construction Management programs include an ACCE- accredited bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, and a PMI-GAC-accredited master’s degree in Construction Management, and a College wide PhD in Technology with a concentration in Construction Management . The graduate and undergraduate programs focus on construction of commercial, industrial, institutional, and, heavy /highway/infrastructure facilities. The Michigan construction industry actively supports EMU’s efforts in curriculum development, student job placement, and accreditation.

Faculty Position : Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management, student advising, active engagement in scholarly activity and research, and providing service to the CM programs, department, university, community, and profession. Potential for program leadership exists.

Applicant Requirements :

• A Master’s degree in a related field to construction, with a minimum of two years appropriate professional practice and evidence of successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following areas: construction materials and methods, construction science, estimating, scheduling, heavy/highway, structures/statics, mechanical/electrical systems, construction contracts, safety, interpretation of construction documents, construction ethics, risk management, project management, analysis of commercial buildings, construction processes improvements, and/or construction information technology.
• Demonstrated expertise in computer applications such as Timberline, HCSS, BIM, and Primavera.

Preferences:

• More than five years of construction experience.
• Professional registration/certification such as, CPC, PE, PMP, CCM or AIA.
• Prior full-time, university-level teaching experience in a construction management or related program.
• Ability to interact with industry through training, research programs and/or similar partnerships.
• Doctoral degree in related field.
• Dedication to actively providing leadership to students through student club sponsorship, competition team coaching and organizing and implementation of similar student activities.
